Aston Villa were one of the busier clubs in the Premier League this summer, with Dean Smith spending over £130m bolstering his squad for their return to the top flight.
The Villa boss was mostly successful in securing the targets he and his team had identified, but it appears one man they missed out on was Celta Vigo’s, Pione Sisto.
Marca report today that the Villains moved for the winger before deadline day last week and saw a bid of €10m accepted by the Spanish side.
They also entered into negotiations with the player, offering him €1m a year in wages, around £19,000-a-week, a significant increase on his salary at Celta Vigo.
However, the player turned down the opportunity, despite him knowing that he will not be a first-team regular for Celta this coming season. His stance, something he shared on social media, is that he will not move simply because the financials on offer are better.
His refusal to sign for Aston Villa was met with disappointment at Celta Vigo, though, as they are determined to move him on and know that there are fewer options for them now the Premier League transfer window has closed.
