Aston Villa are keen on a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel and could compete with Juventus for his signature.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say the Villans are ‘active’ on the Belgian midfielder, who is also being eyed by the Italian giants.
Juventus have lined up Witsel as a replacement for Weston McKennie, who they are keen to sell before the end of the transfer window.
The American has several suitors in the Premier League, including Aston Villa, and should he depart, Juve want Witsel in as a replacement.
He’s available for as little as €5m as his contract is due to expire next summer, and Dortmund would presumably prefer to sell now rather than lose him on a free in six months time.
Juventus are long time admirers, and he was close to joining the club in 2016 when he was at Zenit St Petersburg, and that interest has not gone away. Now they are considering a mixed deal of compensation and bonuses to match Dortmund’s demands and make a move happen.
Time is an important factor in the potential move, though, as there are other suitors, and the newspaper says Aston Villa and Roma are ‘also active’ on the Belgian.
What that means isn’t made clear, but there’s a sense they could provide real competition for Juventus, who need to move quickly to get their man before the others do.
