Manchester United are keen on Anderlecht star Sergio Gomez following his impressive performances this season.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say United are one of the clubs who have sent ‘observers’ to watch his performances.
Gomez has been in fine form for the Belgian side this season, with six goals and 14 assists in 41 games in all competitions, earning him plenty of admirers.
Gazzetta explain that one of those are Inter Milan, who are planning for life without Ivan Perisic and want an alternative to Robin Gosens, who is still adapting to life with the club.
That’s led them to look at Gomez as he fits the profile of what they’re looking at ‘young, affordable and with a sustainable salary’.
The Spaniard is the ‘perfect identikit’ of that and has ‘quality and quantity with a special gift: assists’. In other words, he’s very attractive for the Italian side.
Not just them, though, with his performances meaning that ‘observers’ from Manchester United have ‘often moved in the direction of Brussels’.
Such is the interest there is the ‘risk of an auction’ between those who are keen, something which is seen as a big danger for Inter Milan.
For them, everything depends on Perisic and whether he plans to sign a new contract at the San Siro or move elsewhere.
Talks are ongoing between him and the club over a new deal, but they are yet to send out the ‘famous white smoke’, and so things are uncertain.
Thus they are looking at Gomez as a replacement, perhaps as one for Gosens too, but it seems they could face competition from Manchester United if they do make a move.
