Some weeks ago, Bournemouth loanee Philip Billing scored his first goal for Napoli, finding the back of the net in a major game against Inter Milan.
He featured for Antonio Conte’s side in another vital game against AC Milan yesterday, coming off the bench to help the title-chasers protect a 2-0 lead.
While Napoli won the game 2-1, Billing didn’t help his side at all. He gave away a penalty after coming on and while it was saved by goalkeeper Alex Meret, the Italian press haven’t taken kindly to a mistake that could have cost Napoli the match and potentially the title.
AreaNapoli have looked at how newspapers in Italy have rated the signing from Bournemouth.
Corriere dello Sport give the Dane a rating of 5.5 and they note that Billing’s impact was ‘negative’, especially in comparison to his performance against Inter.
TuttoSport also give the same rating but they’re harsher, stating Billing’s act of giving away a penalty at a vital point was ‘as blatant as it is naive’ and that he should be thanking Meret for saving the spot-kick.
Il Mattino go along the same lines and they described the midfielder’s approach during the tie as ‘irritating’, giving him a rating of only 5.
Corriere della Sera are more critical and they state that Billing has ‘no strength’ to operate in midfield.
The outing on Sunday was the 28-year-old’s fourth Serie A appearance and so far he has made only one start for the club.
