Martin Odegaard isn’t having the return to Real Madrid he’ll have hoped for.

Loaned to Arsenal last season in order to get more minutes on the pitch, Odegaard’s main aim has always been to make it for Los Blancos. Given Zinedine Zidane left this summer, the Norwegian will have hoped for more opportunities under Carlo Ancelotti.

That hasn’t happened in preseason, and the Spanish media are suggesting it’s a sign of things to come.

AS report he hasn’t had a good preseason and has slipped behind Isco in the pecking order. That would be a frustration, given it’s been thought Isco himself isn’t a player Real Madrid will be strongly counting on.

Odegaard was only given 30 minutes in a friendly against AC Milan, and he doesn’t look close to fulfilling his desire ‘to be important’.

This is where a return to Arsenal comes in, and it’s stated that if the player and Real Madrid feel an exit is the best way forward, Mikel Arteta ‘will do everything possible’ to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis.
