Playing together at Arsenal under Arsène Wenger, Andrey Arshavin and Mikel Arteta know each other well.

Their paths after football may have been very different, but Area Napoli in Italy believe the two are still in touch, especially when it comes to Sardar Azmoun.

The website explain that the Zenit St Petersburg forward was offered to the Gunners back in April, and with Arshavin now among those in charge of transfers for the Russian side’s first-team, he is one of the people to talk to.

That’s exactly what Arteta reportedly did, as Area Napoli explain ‘contact’ has taken place between the two former teammates, as the Spaniard looks to bolster his attack ahead of next season.

Following the kind Azmoun offering, Arsenal are ‘collecting more information’ about the Iran international, and with Arshavin knowing the Premier League well ‘and London in particular’, it could be a fast track to the Emirates.

There might be some competition, with West Ham also reportedly circling, and Area Napoli seem to think it would only take €25m or so to convince Zenit to part ways with their 25-year-old striker.

Certainly something to think about for Arsenal…
