Arsene Wenger wants Arsenal to sign Leon Goretzka this summer, according to the latest edition of SportBild.
The German magazine report that Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are all keen on the Schalke midfielder, with the Gunners coming out first.
Arsene Wenger is said to have watched the player for months and wants to sign him this summer. Schalke are set against a sale this summer, even though the midfielder’s contract ends next year.
A good fee from Arsenal now would surely be a better plan for the Bundesliga club, but the word from Schalke is he’s not for sale, even for €20-30m.
As often seems the case, SportBild explain that Bayern Munich could be the winners here, agreeing a pre-contract with Goretzka from next January, and then taking him for free in just under a year from now.
Surely Schalke would prefer the player heading to England for €30m rather than Bayern for nothing? That has to go without saying, which would make one wonder just how strong Arsenal interest really is, or, if yet again, a whole bunch of clubs are artificially brought into a race that Bayern have already won.
