Despite recent optimistic reports about Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s permanent transfer to Roma, there are outlets in Italy who believe an agreement isn’t so close.
Website Calcio Mercato has a story saying Arsenal are still being tough in the negotiations for the Armenian star, and won’t let him go so easily.
Despite an initial demand from the Gunners of €31m, the price has been dropped to €17m, which the report says ‘is not a lot’.
Roma have already paid €3m for the loan deal, and they consider that the total cost of €20m is too much for a player who’s only made eight league appearances in 2020, having missed several matches due to injuries.
Mkhitaryan’s wages are also said to be still a problem.
Calcio Mercato says he makes €7.5m per season at Arsenal, and to sign for Roma, he’d have to accept a pay cut of at least €2m per season, in a deal which would run until 2024.
