It seemed like Arsenal’s chase for Sporting youngster Joelson was long gone, but it’s back being mentioned by newspaper O Jogo today.
Last month, when the Gunners were said to be following the youngster, the Portuguese media claimed that he’d reached an agreement for a new contract with the Lions.
O Jogo shows a different scenario today, claiming that some late demands from the player’s staff have delayed things once again.
Sporting now feel like they’ve given in too much, and will hold a meeting with Joelson and his agents next week to try and find an agreement once again.
Even though the Lions wanted the player to have a €100m release clause, they accepted to lower it to €60m, and offered him a three-year contract, with an option for further two.
O Jogo writes there are ‘many’ clubs are interested in his signing, including Arsenal. The Gunners ‘materialised’ their intentions, but won’t do ‘something crazy’, which would be to trigger his current release clause of €45m.
