Following the many rumours regarding Nuno Tavares’ departure from Arsenal, with Marseille willing to sign the fullback on a loan deal, we today get to see a Portuguese slant of the scenario the player is in.

Newspaper O Jogo writes that the 22-year-old’s future with the Gunners isn’t in danger, at least not for now.

It’s said Arsenal will only let Tavares go in case they sign another defender. And there’s a specific player for it, as it’s Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

O Jogo adds that Marseille are not the only club who are willing to sign Tavares, since there have been ‘informal approaches’ from clubs from France, Italy and Spain.

This week, Nuno Tavares has indeed been mostly linked to Marseille, but claims from Italy have also been talking about the possibility of a move to Atalanta.

Still, in a similar story, we’ve seen reports saying Arsenal would use the money from his departure to invest on the signing of Aaron Hickey from Bologna.

So regardless of which deal they could find for Tavares, it seems the Gunners are focused on strengthening their defence in case he leaves the club.
