With Alexandre Lacazette still to renew his contract at the club, Arsenal are having to look around the transfer market to see if there are any suitable replacements.
This would likely be for a summer transfer, as it seems unlikely that the Frenchman will be sold in the January transfer window, with the Gunners probably keen to use him until the very end of the current campaign.
Names have circulated, with Youssef En-Nesyri a very common one, but Jonathan David, currently at Lille, is one growing in the column inches.
The Canada international has been in fine form this season with the current Ligue 1 champions, scoring 11 goals in 17 league games so far, and that’s despite the team as a whole struggling, as they sit in 11th.
There have been rumours suggesting the Gunners could make a move, but Lille aren’t ready to sell in the coming months, but could do at a later date for the right price.
That’s according to Jeunes Footeux, who, after looking at what was being said in England, explain that Olivier Létang, their president, has ‘clearly pulled out the barbed wire’ and placed it around his star.
It’s pointed out they ‘would not be sellers in January, but would stay tuned if an offer of at least €55m arrived on the table… in view of next summer’.
So, no deal in January, but open the chequebook after that and Lille will gladly listen.
