Earlier today, we covered a couple of stories regarding Arsenal’s negotiations to sign Nuno Tavares from Benfica.
It was first Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias who claimed the move is ‘imminent’, as the clubs reached an ‘agreement in principle’.
Then Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport came up with additional information, saying the Gunners are ready to spend €15m on the signing, as Serie A side Napoli would still make another attempt to win this competition.
Now we see a story from Portuguese outlet Record which actually goes against the other two articles. They claim the deal isn’t done yet, and €15m is not the amount the Premier League side are keen on paying.
Record writes there are negotiations between the clubs as Arsenal ‘try’ to sign the left-back. The Gunners want the deal to have an initial amount plus more in performance goals.
According to their story, it’s Benfica who demand something around €15m, but Arsenal only want to spend half of that. That seems to be the reason why there’s no agreement so far.
With Record bringing this story many hours after Jornal de Notícias, we should now probably wait and see who’s right, as Tuesday’s newspapers will definitely have a bigger angle on this whole story.
