Arsenal have apparently turned out as a late possibility for William Carvalho on the last day of the transfer window.
Newspaper O Jogo reports that in the middle of Sporting’s negotiations with Monaco and West Ham yesterday, Arsenal showed up as another interested side.
But it didn’t get any bigger than this, and by the end of the day, Arsenal still hadn’t made a formal attempt to get the midfielder. The outlet describes it all as ‘just smoke’.
Although Carvalho has been mostly linked to West Ham and Manchester City this summer, Arsenal are actually the club said to have the oldest interest in the player, with rumours dating back to 2013, when he was still finding a place in Sporting’s first team.
Maybe the 25-year-old never reached the level that Arsene Wenger expected, because despite the gossip, there were never many reports of an official bid from Arsenal.
