Chelsea midfielder Jorginho emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal in the final weeks of the transfer window.

The Gunners wanted to strengthen midfield and they did it by bringing Thomas Partey from Atlético Madrid on deadline day.

According to Area Napoli, Mikel Arteta’s side ‘tried until the end of the transfer market’ to sign the Blues player.

Juventus also made an effort for Jorginho before Maurizio Sarri was relieved from his duties in August.

Despite the interest from Arsenal and the Turin club, the 28-year-old ‘wants only Chelsea’, who gave him an opportunity to win the Europa League in 2019.

It’s claimed the Brazil-born Italy international now wants to repay the trust shown by the club by ‘giving the best of himself’ to Chelsea.

His current deal lasts until 2023 and the website suggests it could be time for the former Napoli star to renew his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Area Napoli adds the ‘first contact’ between Jorginho’s representatives and the Premier League side could take place in the ‘next few days’, and the west London club are ‘studying’ the possibility of extending their relationship with the player beyond 2023.
