Sporting are living a pretty big crisis at the moment. Results won’t come, the president recently argued with the players, and the manager is on the verge of being sacked. There aren’t many good sides of the story to be commented on.
At least that’s what we thought when we saw a story saying ‘Campbell’s ups and downs’ in today’s edition of Record. It seemed like one more article questioning the form of a player, and this time one owned by Arsenal.
But actually the piece, which is an opinion one, shows a lot of confidence in the Arsenal loanee. It mentions many of Campbell’s qualities, and praises him for not being a showboating winger..
So what’s the problem with the Arsenal loan player? As explained by Record ‘To deepen his talent, he needs to add confidence, motivation, continuity and commitment to the tactical solution that Jorge Jesus has found for him.’
The most interesting thing is that the newspaper blames this lack of psychological commitment to the many loans that Campbell has had away from Arsenal in the past years.
Arsene Wenger sending Campbell out, and bringing him back, and sending him out… has apparently messed with the player’s head.
But Record still show plenty of confidence in him, and say that ‘Unless there’s any unexpected setback, Joel Campbell is still going to be one of the league’s biggest stars in the second half of the season.’
The player has three goals and four assists this season. He’s one of the few players who can be complimented after Sporting won only four of their last ten games. Should he fulfil the prediction then Sporting will surely trying and get a deal done with Arsenal.
Then Arsene Wenger will have to decide whether he’s going to let go of Campbell permanently.
