Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is on the verge of joining Atlético Madrid, with a meeting set for this afternoon to finalise the deal.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Uruguayan is ‘virtually’ an Atlético player and will sign a deal at his new club this afternoon.
The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates all summer, having been included on the list of players that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was happy to move on.
It had looked increasingly likely that he would return to Italy, with several clubs in Serie A all vying for his signature at one point.
However, there has been a late move by Atlético in the last few weeks after Diego Simeone reportedly called Torreira to tell him he wanted him at the Wanda Metropolitano.
That has seen them presented as the favourites for his signature, although there have been claims regarding a disagreement with Arsenal over their asking price.
That appears to have been settled as far as TMW are concerned, a meeting is expected to take place ‘this afternoon’ with it ‘more and more likely’ that the ‘black on white,’ i.e. signature, will take place then.
They do say that there still needs to be a ‘deal on the details’, but the transfer is very much presented as a done deal at this point.
