Real Betis continue to yearn for Hector Bellerin, having had the fullback on loan from Arsenal last season.
That move worked out well, and Bellerin was very popular at the Sevilla club, both with his teammates and the fanbase. There had been widespread expectation that he’d return this summer on a permanent deal, and despite Betis wanting that to happen they haven’t been able to agree a deal with Arsenal.
Monday’s edition of AS reports the Gunners have ‘torpedoed’ the transfer, because they’re asking for a fee, and Betis are struggling with their finances right now. They haven’t yet been able to sell the players they expected to, and this means they don’t have much money for incomings.
Bellerin is prepared to take a pay cut on what he earns in London, but that doesn’t mean much if Betis and Arsenal can’t reach an agreement.
Betis were beaten 2-1 by PSV Eindhoven at the weekend, and AS explain that much of the Dutch club’s threat came down the side where Bellerin would usually be, showing the need to sign a right-back.
There’s still hope, but for Betis to pay a reasonable feel they’ll likely need to sell someone first.
