Flamengo have been trying to sign Arsenal’s Jorginho before the Brazilian transfer window closes on February 28th.

A week ago, UOL reported the 33-year-old had appointed Dudu Baptista as an intermediary to negotiate with the Brazilian club. They also stated it’s not ruled out the Gunners will offer him a new contract.

Later that day, Goal Brasil reported Flamengo may tempt Arsenal with an offer to sanction his sale this month. The midfielder is still at the north London club where his contract lasts until the end of this season.

O Dia now cover the Premier League side’s stance and the latest on Flamengo’s pursuit of the Brazil-born Italy international.

Mikel Arteta has been trying to convince the Arsenal board to offer Jorginho an extension. The manager’s efforts are said to have been ‘thwarted’ by the English club and therefore it’s claimed the player will leave the Emirates as a free agent in the summer.

Flamengo are likely to be Jorginho’s next club and there are ‘no longer any obstacles’ for him to sign a pre-contract.

O Dia’s title says the Arsenal man could sign a pre-contract in the next few days. Within the report, they state Flamengo hope to announce the move as soon as Jorginho’s signs the contract.

This is all very favourable towards Flamengo and perhaps the reporting is weighted that way.
