Arsenal have been warned that a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku would be ‘difficult’ this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for Nkunku since November last year when they were presented as potential suitors this summer.
There have been several reports about their interest since, with the latest stating that they have been looking into the player.
Their hopes were boosted by the suggestion that Nkunku is unhappy at Leipzig, where he has been playing less than he would like and sometimes out of position.
There has been nothing on Arsenal’s interest in the two days since that report, but SportBILD journalist Christian Falk has now picked up on the rumour.
And he’s confirmed that Nkunku is indeed on Arsenal’s list of potential targets, and they would certainly represent the kind of step-up that he is looking for.
“Leipzig is a bit shaken at the moment, and so Nkunku is also on the out list,” he told BILD when asked about the Gunners interest.
“I would say it will be difficult because he is tied down (his contract runs until 2024) and has a €40 million market value.
“There are, of course, alternatives, Julian Draxler, who is available on a free transfer, or Julian Brandt, who is on the cut list at Dortmund.
“They are a bit easier to achieve, but from a quality point, they would, of course, be a club that would definitely be an upgrade for him.”
