When young Brazilian players are linked to big European clubs, it’s common that people start saying ‘success went to his head’, or ‘he’s already thinking of his new club’.
But despite the news saying Arsenal could land Ramires in January, the 18-year-old has kept his focus on his club Bahia, and left no doubt about it this weekend.
Ramires played his first Salvador derby against Vitória on Sunday, and had quite a good performance at the opponents’ ground.
Vitória opened the scoring the 8th minute, but by the end of the first half, Ramires took a good free-kick, making an assist for the equaliser. Then the home team scored another, and four minutes later, Ramires was there to score his first goal in the Brazilian league.
Quite a huge moment for the teenager, who ended up being a hero in the 2-2 draw, and is finally getting more attention in Brazilian football.
Sport Witness tried to find out if Arsenal were watching the player this time, but his agent has claimed that ‘he’s not aware’ of the Gunners’ presence at the game.
Arsenal’s interest in Ramires was broken by Brazilian journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho last week, who claimed that it’s likely that the Gunners can sign the player in January.
Days later, both his agent and the club confirmed that Arsenal have been watching some Bahia players, which partially confirms the story.
