Arsenal and Ever Banega is the story that, sadly, just doesn’t want to go away, such seems to be Unai Emery’s resolve in bringing the Sevilla midfielder to the Emirates.
Despite many rumours and multiple denials, the rumour appears to have more lives than a box full of adorable fluffy kittens, as Estadio Deportivo provide a rather exciting update.
Back in November, it was stated that Banega was happy at Sevilla, but would leave if he was offered a contract he couldn’t refuse, with his demands said to be €7m/year from a top level club.
Well, it so happens that Arsenal have offered him just that via a three-year deal with an option for another year in hope they can lure him to the Emirates as early as this month.
This offer is said to have ‘surprised’ Banega, clearly not expecting anyone to meet his demands, but he ‘does not intend’ to leave Sevilla in January.
The midfielder is said to have a €20m release clause in his contract, but even if Arsenal do activate it, he can still turn down their offer.
You know the old adage: “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t force him to sign a €7m/year contract”.
