Easily Arsenal’s signing of the season so far, Takehiro Tomiyasu has been instrumental to their turn of form over the past few months.
He has yet to lose a game in the Premier League in the Gunners’ shirt, and was even voted the club’s Player of the Month in September, rewarding him for his good start.
Now with the Japan squad for the international break, the versatile defender sat down with former Schalke 04 defender Atsuto Uchida to discuss his start to the season and the right-back role in general.
He also touched upon his goals at Arsenal, and among them is one the Gunners fanbase will certainly get behind.
Relayed by Yahoo in Japan, he said: “I just want to get Arsenal back to where they used to be, when they were at the top of the Premier League. If that happens, this place will be the best place in the world. That’s the best for me”.
However, he knows Rome wasn’t built in a day, meaning there are steps that need to be taken before that happens, with one important one in particular.
He continued: “I definitely want to get the right to participate in the Champions League this season. I want to appear in the Champions League”.
Since his debut for Arsenal in a 1-0 win against Norwich, the Gunners have only conceded four goals in their last eight games compared to nine in the three games before his arrival.
He was signed from Bologna in a late £17m deal, and it’s perhaps the best move Edu Gaspar has made in a very long time.
