One of the late dramas of the transfer window was the arrival of Takehiro Tomiyasu at Arsenal.

The Japanese defender was a target for Tottenham for the vast majority of the window, with the Gunners often touted as being in the background, but a loan exit for Bellerin forced them into action to sign the right-back.

It was a quick operation, which Corriere di Bologna praise Arsenal for on Wednesday, as Edu Gaspar sent an official offer to Casteldebole ‘that led to the white smoke’.

Seen as €20m + €3m by the Serie A side, the move suits all parties, as Tomiyasu was pushing for a move to England all summer.

That’s where getting the ok from him ‘has never been a problem’, especially when Arsenal offered him a ‘four-year contract with an option for a fifth’, with wages ‘almost three times the ones he got in Bologna’.

The player had ‘long started packing boxes and various practices for a possible departure’, but he postponed his flight to meet up with the rest of the Japan national team to ensure this went through, having his medical on Tuesday in Bologna ‘with an Arsenal doctor who arrived specifically in the city’.

All in all, a good deal for everyone.
