With the contract renewals of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez the main preoccupation of Arsenal’s Twitter account and Gunners fans, news that three of the club’s squad players are on the verge of extending their contracts has emerged from France.
According to RMC Sport on Tuesday, both Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin have agreed to prolong their stay in London for the foreseeable future, this despite one playing far more than the other this season.
The French striker, who celebrated his 30th birthday back in September, will reportedly sign a one-year extension, taking his time at Arsenal until at least 2019.
As for the the 25-year-old defensive midfielder, who has kept Granit Xhaka out of the team most of the season, Coquelin is prepared to pen a new deal keeping him at the club until 2021.
Also hidden in RMC Sport’s article is also the news that Laurent Koscielny is also expected to sign a one-year extension to keep him until 2020, which we’re baffled didn’t make the headline.
This means that Wenger will have his French spine at the club for a few more years.
That’s if the manager stays in charge of the club beyond this season.
