Some very interesting information continues to pop up in the Portuguese press regarding Arsenal’s chase for Sporting starlet Joelson Fernandes.
An update from newspaper A Bola today claims the Gunners are ready to make a second attempt to sign the 17-year-old this week.
The first offer from the London side has already been made, as Arsenal put €20m on the table. The report says the Lions turned it down ‘almost immediately’.
The Gunners know that Sporting will keep using the player’s €45m release clause as a reference, but the idea is to keep testing the Lisbon club, since they know the impact the Covid-19 financial crisis has had on them.
Arsenal are now expected to be in Lisbon again this week, followed by the player’s agent Kia Joorabchian and his father Eusébio ango Fernandes, to try to close a deal.
Even though the English press has just claimed that there are officials from the Gunners in Portugal already, A Bola says this information is not true, as they’re expected in the city later.
The newspaper insists that even if Arsenal can’t manage to get a deal for a lower fee, they are ready to trigger the winger’s release clause if necessary. They only want to test Sporting first.
