Friday will see the U17 Euros kick off in Ireland, meaning a number of exciting talents will be on display with their national teams, which means scouts are going to travel.

Among those will be Arsenal, who have a specific target in mind in the France squad: Brandon Soppy.

Currently contract to Rennes, the right-back signed his first professional deal back in October and is tied to the Ligue 1 club until 2021.

At 17 years of age, he is set to make a first-team appearance for his club, but that could quickly change next seasons if Mehdi Zeffane is allowed to leave on a free in the summer (with Norwich reportedly interested).

The news of Arsenal’s interest comes from RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi on social media, who also pointed out that Monaco will be joining the Gunners in watching the defender throughout the tournament.

Considering the right-back position is one that has been problematic for Unai Emery this season, it isn’t a surprise to see the London club try to find a young but decent backup for Hector Bellerin once the Spaniard returns from his cruciate ligament rupture in the summer.
