Arsenal needing a new ‘world-class’ striker is a tale nearly as old as time.
Danny Welbeck’s return from two knee injuries might have helped a little bit last season, but with Olivier Giroud hardly getting any younger and Alexis Sanchez’s future a hidden secret, Arsène Wenger could be in desperate need of someone soon.
The obvious answer to all his problems is obviously Kylian Mbappé a.k.a the next Thierry Henry.
Unfortunately for Wenger, the principality’s little prince isn’t exactly the most affordable player on the market, what with him costing over €130m and all that, so some alternative needs to be studied.
According to FootMercato in France, one of those is Bordeaux’s Gaëtan Laborde.
The 23-year-old striker was recently linked with a move to Liverpool, which unsurprisingly didn’t come to anything, and now it’s Arsenal’s turn.
Scoring eight goals in 2017, the player’s stock has seemingly risen considerably, but there are doubts as to whether or not he would be of any use to a top Premier League team like Arsenal.
His season’s tally of 13 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions isn’t exactly the most prolific, even if he didn’t start all of those games, and although FootMercato say that Arsenal have been ‘seduced by his profile’, you’d hope a team like the Gunners would be looking at better options if they are to make up for last season’s errors and return to Champions League football.
If it happens, then it’s a gamble more than anything else.
