This week has seen claims regarding a supposed Arsenal chase for Cruz Azul winger Orbelín Pineda.
It was said the Gunners were sending a ‘talent hunter’ to check him out in Mexico, as the Premier League side lead a big race for the player.
However, there are local reports cooling down this story a little. An update from Canal 6 Deportes reporter Olga Hirata regarding the ‘interest from England’ says there aren’t any offers for now.
She claims an intermediary has approached Pineda’s agent in order to ‘start moving’ him to Europe, but no bids have been placed yet. The news is labelled as a subject between officials, as if clubs didn’t get involved in the situation so far.
Oberlín Pineda is a 24-year-old winger who has one goal and one assist in 15 appearances for Cruz Azul this season. He isn’t even a regular starter for Mexico’s national team, and that’s why we wonder if Arsenal would really be in for him.
Although Cruz Azul spent €10.5m to sign him in 2019, he’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at only €4.8m.
