With Atalanta reportedly interested in Nuno Tavares and Arsenal said to be eyeing up a deal for Bologna’s Aaron Hickey, the Gunners want a new left-back.

It appears the Portuguese defender never fully convinced Mikel Arteta during his many appearances last season, and the idea of having another Scotsman to back up Kieran Tierney is appealing to the London side.

So much so, in fact, that, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Hickey, through representatives, ‘has received half reassurances’ that Arsenal ‘want him’.

In fact, ‘the Gunners would be ready to offer €20m + a percentage of a future resale’.

Such a bid could make Bologna ‘falter a lot’ if they were ‘faced with such a proposal’ from Arsenal for their defender, considering he was only bought for €1.5m.

Furthermore, the sale of Hickey ‘would open up the market’, as the Serie A side see Andrea Cambiaso as the favourite to replace the Scotland International going forward, with Quentin Merlin, currently at Nantes, also an option.

Either way, Arsenal, who have just finalised the signing of Fabio Vieira from Porto, seem set on spending more money this summer to build a squad capable of once again competing for Champions League spots in the upcoming campaign.
