Earlier this week, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola revealed that a Premier League side was in talks for the signing of São Paulo youngster Marquinhos.
Without having the name of the club revealed, the reporter said he was first told by someone the talks were advanced, with the the negotiations then confirmed to him by the Tricolor’s president, who added that no official bids were made.
Nicola is now back with a new video today, and this time, he says there are actually two clubs looking for the signing, and those are Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves were reportedly the first to show interest in Marquinhos. Then once the Gunners found out about this chase, they got in touch with São Paulo for the signing.
Arsenal seem to have come on stronger, because according to Nicola, the Gunners ‘ran over’ Wolves and are now the favourites to land the winger.
It’s said no official bid was made by Arsenal yet, but São Paulo already told them how much they want for the move.
Nicola points out that the player is protected by a €50m release clause, but it’s ‘obvious’ that a potential fee wouldn’t be anywhere close to that.
