Arsenal’s quest to sign goalkeeper Joan García has got more expensive, with the 23-year-old potentially on the verge of costing €35m.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that Garcia is one step closer to costing that amount thanks to the Spanish national team.
They explain that the goalkeeper’s release clause, which is currently €30m, will increase to €35m when he is called up to the senior Spanish national team.
He is already on Luis de la Fuente’s pre-list for the upcoming games against Denmark and Serbia, according to Mundo Deportivo’s information, which means he is one step closer to that call-up.
There’s a space in the group as Unai Simon is out injured so will be replaced by Arsenal’s David Raya, who will also then need to be replaced.
Spain have plenty of options but Garcia’s good performances, including a gold medal in the Olympics, has not gone unnoticed and could open the doors to the senior side for him.
That could ultimately be a blow to Arsenal, who spent much of the summer chasing the goalkeeper as a back up to Raya.
A deal appeared close, but Arsenal eventually signed Neto on loan from Bournemouth. If they’re to return in future, it seems a deal will now be more expensive than previously.
