Born at Stains in France, Mohamed-Ali Cho spent five years of his life in Everton’s youth teams without ever making it to the first-team.

He eventually left for SCO Angers in France, where he has become one of the revelations of Ligue 1 of late, already making 18 appearances in the league this year at the tender age of 17.

He’s scored two goals in the process, and his mature performances have caught the eye of many clubs, including Arsenal.

It appears the Gunners, who have a long history of signing French players, had been monitoring the young forward, as Mohamed Toubache-Ter in France reveals they have since ‘pulled out’ from any deal, ‘for now’.

Why Arsenal have stepped back isn’t clear, but what is is the fact that Rennes are still in the mix, making him  a highly ‘coveted’ player, with many teams circling.

Perhaps it was the asking price, as Saïd Chabane, Angers’ president, made it clear to Ouest-France at the weekend that any deal for his starlet would need to be at somewhere ‘in between €40-50m’.

However, their aim was to ‘keep him until the end of the season’, making that a ‘condition’ for any January deal, meaning a loan back for the rest of the campaign.
