Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has told Turkish media that he plans to see out his contract with the Gunners, but he doesn’t know what the future holds when his current deal expires.
The former Germany international has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce in recent months but it seems like he will be remaining with Arsenal at least until the summer, and potentially for another season after that.
Speaking to Bein Sports Turkey as covered by Fanatik, Ozil was asked about his future at the Emirates: “I’m very pleased with my contract and I will continue here this season and next. I can’t tell you what the future will bring, I’m excited about the future, but I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
Last month there were reports Ozil was on the verge of joining Fenerbahce, the club he’s supported since childhood, following his struggles at Arsenal.
Under Unai Emery the German playmaker was frozen out, leading to claims he could be heading either to the Turkish Super Lig or MLS.
However, since the arrival of Mikel Arteta, Ozil has been brought back into the starting eleven and his comments make it clear he’s ready to commit himself to the Premier League side for the next 18 months.
Ozil is contracted to Arsenal until June 2021.
