Last month, Mundo Deportivo reported that Real Sociedad have been trying to sign Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal for the last three years.

According to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, the La Liga side are close to closing the deal for the player and the defender is also willing to help them in negotiations with the Gunners.

Sociedad’s sports management have decided to take the step forward in making an approach to bring in an experience left-back.

It’s claimed the only way the Spanish side can sign the 33-year-old is if their director of football, Roberto Olabe makes a trip to London to convince the Gunners for the transfer.

A source close to the fullback’s surroundings have informed Noticias de Gipuzkoa that they are ‘optimistic’ about the deal going through in the coming days as Monreal is also open to the idea of moving to Sociedad.

Apart from Monreal, Unai Emery has Sead Kolasinac and summer signing Kieran Tierney in the left-back position.

The latter is, however, currently injured and it’s stated Arsenal are a bit worried about his recuperation, which could be a drawback for Sociedad in their efforts to sign the Spaniard.
