Last January, it was clear that Arsenal needed a new striker, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wanting to leave and Alexandre Lacazette set to run down his contract at the Emirates.
An effort was supposedly made to try and sign Dusan Vlahovic, who was then at Fiorentina, but the Serbian eventually ended up at Juventus.
That hasn’t exactly gone all that well for him results wise, as the Serie A giants continue to struggle under Max Allegri, which led to a resurgence in stories sending Vlahovic to Arsenal.
Of course, we all know the Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus for around £47m from Manchester City in the summer, which has worked out fantastically for Mikel Arteta, and there are doubts that they even need a player of the Serbia international’s ilk.
Well, SOS Fanta in Italy, who are part of the same group as Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato, have done a bit of digging on the matter, trying ti clarify the situation.
They state that ‘sources close to the player and to the English club firmly deny all’ of the stories to the outlet.
In fact, ‘there is no kind of contact between Arsenal, Vlahovic or Juve’ at this moment in time.
While there is a discontent from the player’s end, it’s only because he is ‘obsessed with victory’, and the player simply wants to do well with his current club.
What is certain is that ‘he is not preparing the pieces for an exit in January, far from it’, as Juventus consider him the heart of the project.
Down Arsenal’s end, ‘they are happy with Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and the other strikers available to Arteta’, who would rather sign ‘a new midfielder in the winter’.
