Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil has spoken to beIN Sports Turkey and revealed he advised Mohamed Elneny to head to Turkey.
Elneny is currently on loan with Besiktas where’s he’s been impressing with his performances.
Speaking about the Egyptian midfielder, Ozil said he advised his Arsenal teammate, and friend, to move to the Super Lig side: “When he received the offer, he came to me and asked about the life in Turkey. I told him the culture and the food are very similar with Egypt, so he won’t have any problems to adapt. I told him it will be great for him to play in Turkish Super Lig.’
“I hope he will get another chance at Arsenal. He’s like my little brother. I really love him.”
Elneny’s loan contract with Besiktas will expire at the end of the season and there were reports in the Turkish press the Black Eagles will try to keep him beyond this campaign.
The former Basel player has been a key man for Abdullah Avci’s team this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions.
Elneny has also been linked with a move to AC Milan in recent weeks following claims from the player’s father that his son has been in talks with the Serie A side.
His Arsenal contract will expire at the end of June 2022.
