Bought in the summer by Arsenal to shore up their defence with added experience, Sokratis has quickly become a strong presence in Unai Emery’s backline, starting his 19th league game of the season.

Unable to stop Tottenham from picking up a point at Wembley despite Arsenal going 1-0 up, the Greek defender now has a Europa League fixture against Rennes to look forward to, while his former club, Borussia Dortmund, face Spurs in the Champions League.

Speaking to Kicker this week ahead of the European clashes, the 30-year-old opened up about the Premier League and how he’s found it so far.

He said: “Anyone who moves from Germany to here usually doesn’t need a terribly long adjustment period. For me, the English league is the best in Europe. Then it’s the Bundesliga and only then comes the Spanish one”.

Explaining he still feels he’s made the ‘right decision’ to swap Dortmund for Arsenal, joining former teammates Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in London, there are some things about Dortmund he still thinks about, stating the club will ‘always remain in his heart’.

He explained: “In a way, I miss Dortmund. I miss the stadium, the fans. There isn’t an atmosphere like it anywhere in the world”.

As for his former side’s chances in the Champions League going forward, he feels it will be hard for them to pull off an exploit, needing to turn around a 3-0 deficit after a rather poor first leg.

He said: “I can see them beating Tottenham this week, but maybe not 3-0 like at Wembley”.
