Over the past few weeks, various reports coming out of Italy have discussed Lucas Torreira’s possibility of making a switch to Serie A in January.
Napoli have been credited with an interest in the Arsenal midfielder and on Sunday journalist Ciro Venerato told Rai’s La Domenica Sportiva the 23-year-old is on top of their list.
The Italian club have maintained their interest in the Uruguay international even after replacing Carlo Ancelotti with Gennaro Gattuso.
At the Emirates, the Gunners sacked Unai Emery and appointed Mikel Arteta as their new permanent manager on December 20th.
While discussing the Naples club’s plans for the winter market with CalcioNapoli24, Venerato once again reiterated the Arsenal player ‘remains the favourite’ target.
He claims it’s now down to Torreira to make a decision even if Arteta ‘gives him confidence’.
Napoli have come up with two different formulas to sign Torreira which are an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy or a loan deal until the end of the season with a mandatory purchase option.
Should they fail to sign Torreira, Venerato claims Napoli have identified Brescia’s Sandro Tonali as his alternative.
