With Arsenal pushing to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, their quest for a new left-back appears to be coming to an end.

This is why the Gunners have been trying to find Nuno Tavares a new club, if only on loan, for the coming season, where Marseille entered the picture.

Already in good terms with Arsenal following last year’s deal for Mattéo Guendouzi and William Saliba, the two clubs were discussing a deal, but there has been a setback.

This comes courtesy of Tavares himself, according to La Provence, who explain the player himself ‘doesn’t seem convinced’ of moving to the south of France despite the Ligue 1 side holding him in ‘very high esteem’.

Considering how well Saliba did on loan last year there, that might seem surprising, but considering the Portuguese defender was playing semi-regularly with Arsenal last season, perhaps he has loftier ambitions.

It’s also worth pointing out that Marseille will be playing in the Champions League next year, which is a step up from where Arsenal will be featuring.
