Last week, when Lucas Torreira’s dad had been speaking about the player’s future, he revealed that besides Boca Juniors, Brazilian sides Grêmio and Flamengo are also interested in his signing.
The Arsenal midfielder has recently made public that he wants to return to South America as soon as possible, and that apparently encourages many clubs to attempt his signing.
However, reports from Brazil today claim that Flamengo are actually not that committed to going after Torreira in the summer.
Outlet Torcedores claims that according to sources from the club’s board, there are no negotiations for his signing. The main difficulty they’d have for the transfer is the midfielder’s salary, since he’d earn a lot more than the club’s biggest star, Gabriel Barbosa.
Torcedores also heard that manager Rogério Ceni would like to have Torreira in the squad, because he wants another player for that midfield position. But that’s far from meaning that Flamengo will go after him.
Torreira is currently having a loan spell at Atletico Madrid, yet is unlikely to stay in Spain, and should return to London at the end of the season. Even though there was an initial excitement from the Argentine media regarding Boca Juniors’ chances of signing him, they’re now being more cautious about it.
