If you’ve been following Arsenal news on Sport Witness over the last few months, you’ll know all about Thomas Partey.
The Atlético Madrid midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates for most of this year, with his father even commenting on the potential switch at one point.
A deal hasn’t happened as yet, although there’s every chance the rumours will be revived in the coming weeks after Arsenal’s success in the FA Cup and subsequent qualification for European football.
That remains to be seen, but Marca have covered the situation today as part of a piece analysing the situation regarding several Atlético stars.
Basically, several of their big names have been linked to the Premier League this summer – think Oblak to Chelsea – and the newspaper is basically dismissing them, stating that their high release clauses make deals unlikely.
That, however, isn’t the case for Partey as he has an ‘accessible market price’ of €50m, which ‘caught’ Arsenal’s attention in the first place.
Atlético are working on getting him signed to a new deal, but they know he has ‘options’ to leave the club this summer should he wish, one of which is Arsenal.
The notion from Marca is clear. While they’re not pushing Partey to Arsenal in any way, they’re making it clear that his price is affordable and the player has options to move tis summer.
It’s now up to the Gunners to put the money down to get the midfielder should he be the man Mikel Arteta wants.
