Fenerbahce sporting director Emre has revealed they are ‘closer than ever’ to securing a deal for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The German midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Turkish giants since the beginning of the transfer window, with his contract at the Emirates set to expire in the summer.

Having been left out of Arsenal’s squads for the first half of the season, it’s felt he’ll look for a move this month, as opposed to sitting on his contract until the end of the season.

Fenerbahce is his most likely destination, and they have been working to arrange their finances to bring him to the club.

The process is proving to be a slow one, though, with Ozil also having to negotiate with Arsenal over the wages they owe him until the summer.

His agent, Erkut Sogut, revealed earlier this week that that is something they are working on and now Emre has had his say on the matter.

“I look (on it) very positively for the community and the president, but it is not easy,” Fanatik report him saying.

“We have our own plans. Mesut also has a contract with his club. He’s a huge star.

“I would be very pleased that Fenerbahçe had such a player, especially when we were here. We had a meeting with him and his manager. The process is slow, but Mesut is closer than ever.

“The fact that Mesut was in his own childhood dream and Fenerbahce had such a dream made this step so close for the first time.

“After the meeting with the player’s club is over, we will hold meetings amongst us. If Mesut agrees with his club on the terms we want, he will not have a burden on our limits this year.”
