It’s “no secret” that Arsenal have been in contact with Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kökcü’s agents to discuss a move to the Emirates.
That’s according to Voetbal International journalist Martijn Krabbendam, who has provided an update on the midfielder’s contract situation at the club.
19-year-old Kökcü has been earning plenty of interest this season, after establishing himself in Feyenoord’s first-team, scoring three goals and registering six assists in 35 games thus far.
Arsenal are the club most linked with his signature, having first been named as suitors in February this year with claims they wanted to ‘steal’ the midfielder for €20m.
There have been regular updates since then, with it becoming clear that the Gunners were keen on his signature and had already been in touch about a potential move.
Krabbendam has confirmed that is the case, saying it is no secret that they have already talked to his agents, although they face competition for his signature.
“There has been an offer from Feyenoord, and he has refused,” he told Voetbal International.
“Feyenoord are offering something, and Kökcü wants more, you shouldn’t think that that boy is suddenly asking for millions.
“He’s a basic player and the salary is out of all proportion to what some of Feyenoord’s other players earn. Some of the boys on the bench are also earning more.
“Feyenoord will know that one of the greatest talents will have to be better rewarded. If they don’t approach each other, the club will have to think about selling the player, and that’s all there is to it.
“It’s no secret that Arsenal has already spoken to Kökcü’s agents, the Seville clubs are also very interested in the midfielder.
“Chelsea is still playing in the background. Also, the Italian clubs Atalanta Bergamo and AS Roma are still very interested.”
