Over the weekend the Italian media talked up the possibility of Steven NZonzi moving to AS Roma this summer.
The Serie A club’s director of football, Monchi, earlier this summer pretty much ruled an attempt for the midfielder. Things have reportedly changed and Monchi would be willing to go into talks with his former club, which could be a little awkward when Roma refuse to pay the €40m buyout clause.
Nzonzi’s exit rumour has therefore been given a boost in the Spanish media, and Monday’s edition of AS reports Roma and Arsenal are the two ‘most serious suitors’ for the French World Cup winner.
At Sevilla they don’t think Nzonzi is changing his mind on wanting to leave the club, and therefore a transfer is seen as almost certain this summer.
Still, the La Liga side cling to the €40m figure, largely thanks to Nzonzi being called up to France’s World Cup squad and then going on to help them win the tournament.
Before the good Russia news, Sevilla were expected to accept quite a bit less after an up and down season for the footballer which included some controversy.
Arsenal and Roma are both unlikely to want to match the higher figure, likely feeling it’s a little inflated for the 29 year old, given his last season and desire to leave.
