Arsenal are on the verge of completing a deal for Hertha Berlin youngster Omar Rekik, with the 19-year-old having signed a four-year deal at the club.

That’s according to BILD, who say the youngster ‘follows the call’ from Arsenal’s academy director Per Mertesacker to make the move to London.

They explain that the Gunners, who wanted to sign Rekik in the summer, have agreed a €600,000 deal with Hertha for the young defender.

This is seen as something of a good move for the German side, who were set to lose Rekik on a free transfer when his contract was set to expire.

Instead, Rekik is now ‘daring the big leap’ to England with Arsenal and has signed a four-year deal at the Emirates.

He’s set to join the club’s under 23 side initially but has been promised the prospect of working with the senior squad in the near future.

That’s something he couldn’t manage much at Hertha, where he managed just eight games for Hertha’s Under 23 side and sat on the bench in the Bundesliga three times.
