The Portuguese media have pretty much convinced themselves that Arsenal have a long standing love of Danilo and are seriously considering buying the player. The rumour dates back over a year but has recently enjoyed something of a revival.
Arsenal scouting Porto matches obviously helps and last weekend they had an official at the club’s match against Sporting. Then followed several big articles in the Portuguese media trying to build up the idea that Arsenal are back in, if they ever were in, for Danilo.
On Saturday evening Porto beat Vitoria 2-0, Danilo was one of the team’s better performers, and Arsenal had a scout in attendance at the match. That’s of course led A Bola to make the Danilo link, and those who are fond of this rumour will see it as further encouragement.
Danilo is a right footed defensive midfielder who can also play in central defence. The 25 year old recently extended his contract with Porto until 2022, and his release clause was raised to €60m.
He’s not a Jorge Mendes client.
Despite all of that, there’s no certainty Arsenal are even interested, they may have their eyes on someone else at Porto.
Andre Silva has been linked with the club previously, as well as linked to every big club in Europe, and the 21 year old will leave sooner or later.
He is represented by Mendes, but Arsene Wenger has made it clear that whilst he’s not a big fan of the agent, it wouldn’t kill a potential deal.
