That Mattéo Guendouzi’s time at Arsenal was over appeared to be clear when Mikel Arteta stopped using him before shipping him off on loan to Hertha BSC.

The midfielder has enjoyed himself with the Bundesliga club despite a slow start due to Covid-19, and it appears the Gunners tried to make the most of this.

According to Sky Germany, relayed by Fussball Transfers, Arsenal ‘offered the midfielder for a fixed amount of €30m’, which would have made them a profit of around £20m.

However, Hertha, despite his performances, turned down the chance to sign Guendouzi permanently, with the TV channel adding ‘it is questionable whether he will stay in Berlin beyond the current season’.

The reason for that is the Frenchman ‘prefers a move to a larger club where he can at least play in the Europa League’.

Hertha currently find themselves 12th in the Bundesliga, some way off the European spots, and the above suggests the Arsenal midfielder has little faith in his teammates closing the gap.
