Mikel Arteta’s rime in charge of Arsenal is widely considered a success, even if a couple more trophies along the way would have made everything even better.

He’s now been at the club for five years and this season is likely to be a vital indicator of his ability to win major trophies, with the Gunners still very much in all four competitions.

There’s now a surprising claim that Arsenal ae looking beyond Arteta, in case they decide he’s not the man to take them to the next step. Friday’s edition of TuttoSport has a big article on the Gunners being keen on Inter Milan Simone Inzaghi.

The newspaper states that while there are no signs of Arteta departing the Emirates anytime soon, clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in him.

If the 42-year-old leaves, it’s claimed Inzaghi will be a candidate to come in. The report states Arsenal currently ‘observe and dream’ about hiring the Italian, who is on the shortlist to replace Arteta in the future.

The London giants have already sent congratulatory messages to Inzaghi and his entourage in the past for the work he is doing at the Nerazzurri.

While the manager is quite happy at Inter and wants to replicate the great Helenio Herrera, an opportunity to manage in the Premier League will ‘intrigue’ him. That is why Arsenal can entice him in the longer term.

Maybe one for the long grass.
