Back at the weekend, the Paraguayan media started reporting that Arsenal would send a scout to the match between Cerro Porteño and Libertad.
The Gunners’ emissary was to make the trip to watch one player from each club: from the home side, he’d keep an eye on defender Alexis Duarte, while winger Julio Enciso would be the other one.
Cerro Porteño won that match 4-0, with manager Francisco Arce claiming that was his team’s best performance since he took charge of the club, so it’s no surprise that Arsenal had more good things to see from their players.
Now Paraguayan outlet Cronica shares an update on what the Gunners’ official thought of Duarte, and it seems there was a good impression left from the central defender.
It’s claimed that Duarte left ‘very good sensations’ for the scout, and therefore, the player now becomes interesting for the ‘project’ Arsenal have for the next season.
Even though Cronica doesn’t mention a price this time, by the first time they reported the Gunners’ trip to Paraguay, they claimed Cerro Porteño would demand US$4m (£3m) for the defender.
