There is certainly something to be said about patience in the transfer market, with a lot of deals eventually going through after some waiting and negotiating, and there’s hope Granit Xhaka’s from Arsenal to AS Roma follows suit.
The two clubs have been in a stalemate over the transfer fee for some time, and yet we haven’t seen much movement over the past couple of weeks.
The Euros certainly played a part, as the Gunners man captained his country all the way to the quarter finals, but Switzerland’s run came to a gut-wrenching end as they got knocked out by Spain on penalties.
Now on holiday, it was reported he could cut those short to ensure a deal got done sooner, and there’s some echos of that in Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday.
The newspaper says there is a ‘need to wait a few more days’, as the gap between the two clubs still hasn’t been closed, but they are very clear that ‘there will be no surprises.
That means they believe it will go through, especially since the Arsenal player already has an agreement with Roma, and he has ‘stuck his neck out’ to try and get the deal done quicker.
By that, they mean he’s made it clear to the Gunners that he wants to leave, and the goal for Roma is to have him for the second part of pre-season that is expected to be in Portugal.
Patience is a virtue and all that, but they’re certainly testing it in the process.
